Here are a couple of Mapping Our World lessons that dovetail nicely with the Sept 2013 National Geographic Magazine’s Rising Seas article focus.

Module 3, Climate. Lesson 1
Running Hot and Cold
Lesson overview
Students will explore characteristics of the earth’s tropical, temperate, and polar zones by analyzing monthly and annual temperature patterns in cities around the world. In the course of their investigation, students will observe temperature patterns associated with changes in latitude as well as differences caused by factors such as elevation and proximity to the ocean.
Estimated time: Two to three 45-minute class periods, internet access needed.
Module 7, Forces of Nature. Lesson 1
Water world - A global perspective
Lesson overview
Students will investigate changes that might occur to the surface of the Earth if the major ice sheets of Antarctica melted. They will begin their exploration at the South Pole by studying the physical geography of Antarctica. They will consider the consequences of projected changes on human structures, both physical and political. The assessment asks students to create an action plan for a major city that would be flooded in the event of a catastrophic polar melt down.
Estimated time: Two 45-minute class periods, internet access needed
