Several Interesting Sites for Academia

College Board – This website is all about helping students become more prepared for college. High school students can get guidance to help prepare for the SAT. Also students can search colleges and different programs available at different locations (majors, etc.). The site also helps to give students resources to find ways to pay for college.
Campus Explorer – The main function of this site is to search different colleges. The site allows you to use many types of filters in this search: state, major, type of degree, specialty, learning style, etc. You can also read different reviews of the school. Once you find a college, you can look at cost estimates, photos, videos, academics, etc.
Rate My Professor – This is actually one of my favorite sites. Here you can search the name of any professor from any college. This site allows anyone to write a review of their experience with any given professor. Then the site averages out their overall quality score which is then broken down into three categories: Easiness, Helpfulness, and Clarity. You can also read every individual rating given by each user. This is a great way to take a look into what other students feel about that professor. The site also has a few strike backs from the professors themselves.
eLearners – If you are looking to find a college degree that you can accomplish online. This site allows you to look up different degrees offered online from associates to doctorates. They do ask for some personal information when you submit your search, however, you can be as specific as you like when perform your search: Your college GPA, what degree you are seeking, area of study, etc.
FastWeb – This website enables students to create an account, search and save colleges and scholarships to apply to, explore personalized career paths and plan their future. It’s a great and easy way for students to find out about financial aid opportunities to help them get through college.
Cappex – Students in high school trying to figure out which college they want to attend should use this website. It allows them to search colleges, apply for scholarships, and calculate their statistical chances of being accepted to universities of choice.
The Princeton Review – The Princeton Review is a test-preparation database for “the big” tests students may have to take along their academic journey. The test preparation is offered in-person in various locations, online, or through textbook. For K-12, they offer prep materials for SHSAT, SSAT, ISEE, and also personalized academic tutoring. For College admission, they offer prep for PSAT, SAT, ACT, and AP exams. For in-college preparation, they offer programs for LSAT, MCAT, GMAT, GRE, OAT, and DAT.
WePapers - This website offers very handy features for busy students wanting access to their materials on multiple computers. Through creating an account, students can upload documents, notes, presentation files, and word documents in order to access them on any computer or internet device.
Schmoop – Don’t be fooled by the goofy name. This student-age-friendly website is an incredible supplemental resource for subjects students may need help with. They have study notes, summaries, and easy-to-understand explanations of topics such as these: Literature, Bible, Poetry, Shakespeare, Mythology, Bestsellers, Dr. Seuss, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Algebra II, Geometry, Biology, US History, Flashcards, DMV Careers, SAT, ACT, and AP Exams. And if those don’t fit your fancy, there’s also a teacher’s resources tab with access to tips and materials on teaching core curriculum for K-12 education. Get in the loop and check out Schmoop!
