WHO: National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ)

WHAT: NCTQ’s new report, Connecting the Dots: Using Evaluations of Teacher Effectiveness to Inform Policy and Practice, will provide the most up-to-date analysis of the current state of teacher evaluation designs and policies for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The report provides:

· A detailed and up-to-date lay of the land on teacher evaluation policies across the 50 states and the District of Columbia Public Schools;

· An in-depth look at policy in states promising ambitious teacher evaluation systems (states requiring that student growth and achievement to be a significant or the most significant factor in teacher ratings), including states’ efforts to “connect the dots” to use teacher evaluation results in meaningful ways to inform policy and practice;

· A compilation of some of the important lessons learned, pitfalls and successes states have experienced on the road to improving teacher evaluation systems.

The report is a follow up to NCTQ’s 2011 State of the States report on teacher evaluation policies around the country. To request an embargoed report and schedule an interview with a NCTQ spokesperson, please contact Maegan Rees at mrees@nctq.org.

When: Embargoed copies will be available on October 29, 2013 upon request. The full report will be released on October 30, 2013.
